One more manifestation that Naga College Foundation, Inc. (NCF) is riding in the bandwagon of innovation has been sealed on March 17, 2023, as the Naga City Government, through the Naga City Investment Board (NCIB), collaborated with the colleges of Business and Management (CBM), Engineering (COE), and Computer Studies (CCS) for the Idea2Startup—the Idea to Startup Program.
Nearly three years after the passage of the Innovative Startup Act of 2018 (Republic Act 11337), the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Naga moved toward the institutionalization of the Naga City Digital Innovation and Startup Ordinance (Ordinance No. 2021-057) that initiated the creation of the Naga City Digital Innovation and Startup Development Program. Prior to this, the Naga City Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) was already established through Ordinance No. 2020-016. Such legislative gestures cover the promotion of the startup ecosystem and designing mechanisms to reinforce startups in the city.
The City Government of Naga emphasized the role of the academe in materializing the objectives of the aforesaid measures through an agreement with NCF wherein the two parties shall collaborate on developing relevant projects, promote multidisciplinary partnerships, access support to turn their prototypes into viable technology startups, and provide venue and mechanisms for the implementation of the Idea2Startup program.
Various activities such as startup bootcamp, ideation development, open-pitching, and startup incubation and commercialization are expected to be integrated into the curricula of CBM, COE, and CCS to introduce students to the inevitable innovation while keeping them abreast of the revolutionized competencies.
Present during the signing event were Hon. Nelson S. Legacion, Naga City Mayor; Mr. Mario C. Villanueva, NCF President; Mr. Elmer S. Baldemoro, Naga City Administrator; Mr. Reuel Oliver, NCIB Executive Director; Mr. Paul John C. Legaspi, NCIB Investment and Marketing Officer; Mr. Renato B. Belaro, CBM Dean; Ms. Anna Loretta C. Romulo, CCS Dean; and Mr. Proceso P. Capagas, Technology Resource Center Director.
