𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: Wearing his iconic vest, Mr. Howie G. Severino graces the stage of discourse and speaks before the students of Naga College Foundation, Inc. (NCF) and University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) through a talk show-inspired discussion during the GMA Masterclass: The Icons Series, today, November 12, 2022, at The Quad.
Mr. Jessie T. Cruzat, Balitang Bicolandia anchor, presides over the discussion that emphasizes the elucidation of accountability, editorial processes, verification discipline, honesty, the taxonomy of criticism, the state of truth in the hierarchy of values in the Philippines, and professional discipline in journalism— from the perspective of Severino.
Shortly after the hour-long talk with Cruzat, Severino also entertains questions from the students that revolve around his humble beginnings, inspirations in pursuing journalism, the threat to journalism and journalists, his stand on national pressing issues, as well as personal and professional development.
In a certain response, Severino challenges the academes to “teach students to love the truth” and “bring back the truth to the highest level in the hierarchy of values” amidst the threat of people’s loyalty to various institutions and entities that diminishes the power of truth.
“Karunungan is nothing without Katotohanan,” Severino said while integrating the NCF’s motto into his answer.
Moreover, GMA Regional TV-Bicol and GMA Network, Inc. representatives confer plaques of commendation and appreciation to Severino, NCF, and UNC for their immense contributions to the success of the said event.
