CCS: Test of Pedagogical Competency in Information Technology

𝗔𝗖𝗔𝗗 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗞│Setting the target to unveil the level of competencies of the students in the discipline of Information Technology (IT) and improve the quality of instruction, the College of Computer Studies (CCS) partook in the Test of Practical Competency in Information Technology (TOPCIT), November 26, 2022, at the CCS Computer Laboratory.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation of the Republic of Korea, TOPCIT is a performance-evaluation-centered test designed to diagnose and assess the basic competencies of IT specialists and software developers working the IT industry.
According to the details provided on the TOPCIT’s website, the test aims to address the concerns of the industry, companies, and universities on the stagnant growth rate in the IT industry workforce and the decline in quality of graduating students, the need for a standardized and objective competency index for hiring IT recruits, decrease in qualified personnel recruited in the IT field, the increased demand for a standardized IT evaluation tool for graduating students, and the continuous efforts to improve the quality of education.
Meanwhile, the three-hour examination was comprised of a 65-item test centered on solving real-life problems with practical knowledge through various methods, such as coding and drawing diagrams.
The forty combined third-year and fourth-year students of Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS) and Computer Science (BSCS), who underwent the competitive examinations, are set to receive the results this week through an email.
Furthermore, NCF is one of the two higher academic institutions in the region that was tapped by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to serve as the TOPCIT examination centers.
